The history of Damien Béal's creations
With his hands in wood for many years, Damien Béal has developed a rich professional experience in carpentry and cabinet making by training with the Compagnons du Devoir. Specialized in traditional carpentry at first, he quickly proposed his own creations in furniture and decorative objects. At the same time, in 2014, he decided to expand his business by inviting himself into leather goods and developing a collection of bags in the image of his values: artisanal know-how, eco-responsible awareness, high quality French manufacturing. Thus, he created the first French brand of handcrafted leather goods, high-end, in wood and leather.
His creative approach consists in rethinking everyday objects by integrating his favorite material, wood, while seeking the alliance of materials and knowledge. His creations have led him over the years to be able to work, both in a traditional and modern way, different materials such as leather, metal, etc. Thus, the crafts and materials are associated for the benefit of the work. The artistic choice of refined creations, of which he keeps only the essential, is linked to his will to give an important place to the texture and to let appear the signs of the manufacturing. Each creation is carefully thought out in order to offer an exceptional product, with a strong identity, as much for its originality as for its quality. Through his creations, the creator wishes to return to the fundamentals of a durable object, without obsolescence, whose time is only a sign of embellishment, a nose-thumbing to our consumerist society.
The place of inspiration for all his creations, his workshop in which he makes furniture and objects is located in the Perche Regional Nature Park. As for his Versailles workshop, located on rue d'Anjou, he creates bags with a singular and timeless design, whose use meets the needs of daily life.
